Play The Gamer Launch Play the Gamer (PTG) the UK's first national live console gaming league, will be officially launched on the 2nd and 3rd September in the stunning surroundings of the Empire Casino in Leicester Square (http://www.thecasinolsq.com/). Run over 2 days in parallel with Poker in the Park, the annual international poker event, there will be a 2 day free-to-enter micro-tournament for members of the public, with some fantastic prizes on offer.
Poker in the Park (http://www.pokerinthepark.com/) Europe's largest poker festival, will attract 20,000 poker players and fans eager to compete in the pavilions erected for the tournament in the centre of Leicester Square. Evander Holyfield will also be attending for the Heads Up tournament and this might be a perfect opportunity to meet the former world heavyweight champion in person.
Play the Gamer provides a national league for thousands of gamers across the UK to play weekly in hundreds of local venues. Designed very much as a grass-roots gaming league PTG, for the first time, renders competitive video gaming accessible to the man/woman on the street, in addition to providing an entertaining experience in a local community venue.
The PTG tournament area will be open from 10am until 4:30pm on each day, with gamers being able to walk in, register and then play for their chance of winning one of the superb prizes on offer. Members of the press wishing to attend are asked to do so between 2:30 and 3:30 on each day, at which time we will also be hosting exhibition matches from some of the world's top gamers. The world champions of FIFA, Need for Speed and Call of Duty will all be attending, and may even be available to play selected members of the public.

Play The Gamer Richard Lewis, the Editor In Chief of our sister site Cadred.org, has written an article about the latest development in competitive gaming, Play the Gamer. Aiming to bridge the gap between casual and competitive play the project hopes to make the idea of playing games competitively a more social endeavour and encourage people to do it face to face rather than rely on online methods:
"You donât need to be Bob Dylan to know that the times they are a changing and those of us passionate about e-sports have seen and felt those changes of late. While the gaming industry continues to thrive with many companies remaining profitable throughout a global recession and Hollywood calling as they try and find the next thing they can mine for inspiration, e-sports remains a marginalised curiosity, an introverted cousin within an extended family. The change had to come at some point and in truth would have been better had it come sooner but we are a stubborn and proud bunch, resistant to change and insistent on adhering to traditions."
These are mandatory so please update these before your next matches.

Heaven Media are proud to announce "The Alienware Backpacking Challenge", a two-month competition that will see four gamers, selected from hopeful applicants from across Europe, to travel all over the continent.
Kitted out with an Alienware M11x laptop, a video camera, and a set of camping equipment, the four lucky participants will blog their way over mountains and seas, crossing borders and time zones, completing challenges before going up against each other in a weekly public vote.
With thousands of hopefuls expected to apply, competition will be fierce among the budding bloggers, and in the Alienware M11x they will find the perfect partner, providing the latest laptop technology in a stylish eleven-inch package, ideal for the long road ahead.

For the entire two-month period, the four contestants will be blogging, video-blogging, tweeting and uploading pics, all hosted on their own individual site within the competition web site.
As each week goes past, everyone at home following their journeys will be asked to vote on that weekâs winner, based on performance in the challenges, imagination and creativity, and blogging talent among other criteria. But these votes arenât just for a weekly pat on the back. When the four meet up at the end of the eight weeks, at GamesCom in Cologne, only one of them can be crowned the Alienware Backpacker of the Year 2010, taking home the cash prize of $5,000!
