well as some may know my geforce 6200 is a bit out of date for most of my games namely far cry 2 which i can just amazingly play with a frame rate of 15-8 which strangely enough plays quite smooth well above 10 fps

but anyway

ive been looking at the 8600 gt

and while searching for a reasonbly priced card i got myself confused with all the xfx pny sfx or what ever and my brain is a bit fried up and i see some selling the card for 80-40 quid and its just too much for me to bother understanding

also if anyone recomends me a different card i want 1 that can use dx10 and has a hdr of 128 bit

8600gts are entry level dx10 cards and are quite naff. theyre 2 years old now.
try a 9600gt or similar

8600 is terrible card.

My 7900GS humps it performance wise.

Buying anything other than an 8800GT or above would be a waste of money i'm afraid mate, especially if you're looking for a noticable performance boost in Far Cry 2.

they aren't. my c90's got a 8600M GT 256 MB DDR3, and it's running far cry 2 at high and css at a steady 120 fps with everything except aa and af maxed out.

sure, a 8800GT or faster will outperform it, but that's not really strange if you look at the price tags.

again, it doesn't. run 3dmark06 and upload your scores and i'll bet you a case of beer my 8600 is faster (asus powergear on, about a 15% OC)
7900GT and the 7950 series _do_ beat it easily. 7900GS doesn't.

all in all, go for a quicker card if you can, but the 8600GT's are well decent for cheap fun with most modern games (only crysis doesn't run worth a damn, needs to have everything at low/med to get 35 fps)

I have an XFX 8600GTS, and unlike what Jim says, it's not crap, it can play TF2 on high, Bioshock on high, CoD4 on high, pretty much everything I've tried it can run mid-high with decent FPS.

But soon I am upgrading to a 4850/70 which I suggest you do if you can afford an extra Â£40.

This r good.

Oh, right, look at ATI cards, they're much better than Nvidia right now, you get much more for your money.

Just had a look at some of the ATI cards and although im not keen on ATI i have to agree there's some good bargains about such as:
