Riley tells me that a Steam event for Pyro Juggling has just popped up. A teeny error there. Let's face it, one Saturday looks very much like another. You want to try retirement - every day looks very much like the other (it is Wednesday, isn't it )

Just to confirm it's : 14:30, SATURDAY 29TH NOVEMBER i.e. next Saturday. Quite a few people couldn't make it today.

Cheers

Despite a wobble, with a few "can't make it"s (including Melon ), people are still keen for this to go ahead. So, just to remind you, it's scheduled for Saturday, kicking off around 14:30. If you can make it, that would be great. CAWA's going to give me the server and password on Friday, so I won't have time to PM. I'll publish the details on the "|UKMD| General Team Fortress 2 Chat" forum in the hidden UKMD-only area.

If you're a Sponsor or Victim and want to join in, post or PM me and I'll make sure the info's on your forums, as well.

Here's a reminder of some of the things that have been suggested:

DUNK - "i think we should be able to get a team of pyros, have them all stand in a row and then have the opposing team pyroblasted along the line. like some big air powered moving people by air thing."

DUNK & Neon "i also want to try pyro tennis, ping pong a scout between 2 or more pyro's ... All the pyros would have to be the same team, obviously, and you'll need a net. Maybe a row of dispensers? You can refill your ammo that way too ...One thing though: I think the Scout will need some people on his team, because everytime a pyro misses the scout will take fall damage. Plus I wouldn't put it past them to set me on fire... So, you could either have a medic running around and getting in the way OR: Most of the scout's team are engineers. You get a whole row of dispensers for your net and the scout gets to heal between serves (will need at least one engie on the pyro's team though, since they can't use the scout's dispensers)"

Barbeque & Neon - "Try getting some medics too, don't know if it made a difference but i ubered someone on badwater then ended up being shot about a mile in the air, 3 times the height of the upstairs bit on badwater! ... When you're going for height, you could use more than airblast; have a heavy shooting them as well, or a soldier with good aim. If you use a scout again, they could cheat a bit and double jump."

Nick - "how about setting up a chain of pyros from one end of a map to the other and seeing if its possible to bounce someone all the way."

DUNK - "Pyro tennis, this is on youtube but lets try it with 4 players, in a diamond (like baseball) and we can try and blast a rocket between 4 player. that could work with 12 red pyros in a big circle with a few blue soldiers spamming rockets at us."

Looking around YouTube, most "Tennis" vids are with rockets or flares. I couldn't find any with more than 2 Pyros (see DUNK's final suggestion). I've seen a couple of Heavy juggling vids but nothing on the scale we could achieve if we put our minds to it.

If your PC can stand it, please demo all or part of the session, especially if you're taking an active part as Pyro, Scout, Soldier or whatever. I doubt I'll be anything but an Engi or Medic, so I'll have the observer's point of view.

Which brings me to the "YouTube" bit of this exercise. I am very happy to put any stuff together into a vid. I've made a few vids over the years. However, I'm only a WMM user and don't have any posh video editing software. Or claim to be an artistic genius. So, if anyone's good at this stuff and is willing to volunteer, I'll happily coordinate getting the demos to them.

See you there.

The main suggestion has been Scouts but I love the idea of a Spy becoming invisible mid-air. That should cause some confusion. Nice one, Shadam

Alas, I have a spare H-L2 and Ep. 1 but not TF2. Get it on your Xmas list

Well, that was insane

Red Base on Badwater played host to Red vs. Blu rocket/flare/grenade tennis. Amongst the madness, there were demonstrations of brilliant volleys, accurate aiming and some outright flukes

The cooperation between the teams was exemplary until "30 seconds left in the mission" was announced when TF2 instincts kicked in and a massacre usually ensued.

I can take little credit for this display of extraordinary skill as I was trying to record these exploits inbetween keeping my dispenser in one piece and being slapped, timebombed and airblasted by all and sundry.

A huge thank you to all who came along and, especially, to CAWA for sorting the server. I had an absolutely hilarious afternoon.

I've got a lot recorded but I know others had demo running as well. If you could upload it to some web space, somewhere, I'll grab it. If you don't have access to a few MB's in the ether, let me know and you can upload to my FileFront page.

Again, I'll happily string this stuff together into a vid but if anyone else would like to do it or, better still, is good at it, just say.

Thanks again for a most enjoyable couple of hours.

Cheers

I had a really good time, even my missus thought it was amusing - although my little lad didn't understand why we were playing on train tracks - bless.

Thanks to greybeard for organising us and to cawa for sorting the server out. I can't wait to see the vids.

we have to do more stuff like this as it was great fun

Please bear with me on producing the vid. Between Oldman and myself, I reckon we had the best part of 4 hours of demo recordings which I've turned into 67GB of avi files. It's a bit of a big job. I'll get some screenies out as soon as I can but in the mean time, here are some of my favourite quotes.

Oldman (on playing 'Volley Scout' with only 3 on the server): "We need a dispenser ... and some skillz"

Neon (on 'accidentally' blowing up the opposition): "Cruel ... but funny"

Oldman: I'm definitely gonna die ... but it'll make me laugh"

Neon (on inventing 'Dodge Rocket'): This could be interesting ... or go very, very wrong"

As one of those 3 I have to say Oldman was right!

Thanks for organising a fun afternoon. It was much better than watching England get thumped again (by the All Blacks this time).

Sorry I had to drop out early. I'm eagerly awaiting the vidoe(s) to catch up on the bits I missed.

I thought I left a thanks post already (is there 2 threads??) anyways... aspeople have already mentioned thanks goto :

Dunk & Melon for the idea
Cawa for server/admin abuse
Greybeard or GB as I like to call him for sorting it out.

My time was spent maintaining a disp when the team i was on 'missed' the incoming rocket and got blasted!!

Oh and of course ohh'ing, arrhh'ing and rofl'ing at the cool rocket tennis etc !!

If anyone would be up for another 'round 2' of this sometime let me know where and when and my disp duties will commence again.

I'm sorry the vid's been a while coming but it turned out to be a big job. FRAPS to convert demos to AVIs; AVISnipper to cut out the bits I wanted; WMM to splice it all together. In fact, it was so complicated, I broke WMM . I had to re-make it as two vids and join the final WMVs together. I haven't left my desk for days . As a result, my wife's run off with the milkman, all the goldfish have died and someone's opened a McDonald's in my bedroom

Anyway, here's the beta release of the vid. It's only 8 minutes. I won't embed it because the small size won't do the participants proper justice I've just whacked it on to my YouTube account, for now. All comments gratefully received before I do a final version for our own YouTube Channel.

In particular, PLEASE CHECK THE CREDITS! People were coming and going through the session. I think I've got everyone. If not, post and I'll gladly add you. Personally, my favourite clip is Peanut's first attempt at Engi Juggling. Cracks me every time

@neon - Sorry I missed your post. As you can tell, I've been busy. Have a look at the vid and if you think you've got any shots that would add, let me know. Honestly, it would be hard to take on additional stuff, now. But don't worry, Dodge Rocket is definitely in

Cheers

Looks good.

Think you get a high score for the music choice too, since my dad was sat next to me going "I remember that song" and then telling me what it was

Oh, and since you've already made a great video, and my demo is a) huge file size and b) mostly spent in respawn mode, I think I'll leave it

@DUNK - I'm glad you liked it. I really wish you had been there. Love the idea of the skeet shoot. We barely scratched the surface of what could be done with a server full of cooperative (more or less ) maniacs. If I ever recover from this one, and there's demand, I'd be happy to try again.

@Rich - What a n00b. I didn't realise
