The original is Straight To Hell by The Clash who were one of the all time great bands. I would put them on a par with the Beatles for the effect that they had on the general history of music. Unfortunately they discovered drugs more quickly than their erstwhile Liverpool predecessors but their star burned just as brightly for me. (Can you tell that I am a fan?)

The MIA song is a comment on the time in which is was created and I guess that it is relevant for all that in as much a way as the Clash original. I'm not really one for great songs being rehashed into new ones as they are 'of their time' and belong in that moment. The only exception that I can think of is Bitter Sweet Symphony which captured the moment perfectly.

Anyway, history lesson over......back to work! !lol

The Beatles vs. The Clash. What fun

Both epitomised a moment in time as 50's rock'n'roll made its way into the 60's and 70's punk made its way into the 80's. Culturally they were both hugely significant. And I like both.

However, I think people will be covering songs like "Yesterday", "With a Little Help from My Friends", "Fool on the Hill", "Here Comes the Sun" et al for some decades to come. They were perfect "pop songs" in their own right. Songs like "London Calling" and "Rock the Casbah" were of their moment but I wonder if they'll have the same longevity.

And, anyway, they were both **** compared to The Stones (joke )

We can like new stuff as well . I must admit rap doesn't do it for me. Nothing against it, mind. Currently stacked by my PC are :
