this is the 1st time i have been on when the badwater server ran out of time so maybe this observation has been made but here goes

server had c25+ players at 1.10am GMT.
server was out of time so was expecting a score reset, but without warning it kicked everyone when it reset
1.20am GMT and we have only 5 players back on the server! it may get busier but it may not.

so my question is
When it resets does it have to kick everyone? I do a agree that a reset once and a while is a good thing.
If it must kick everyone, can there be some prominent messages on screen to warn and ask people to rejoin?

just seems a pity to empty a server and loose the players to someplace else.

was this at a "normal" map change, or a CAWA manual reset of the server?

thanks so much jim I only restarted it 10 mins ago, not this morning

I have had reports of bad water running slow for a day or more, I have not found a time to restart it as it has allways been busy.

tbh it did seem a little jittery at times last night but this was just the normal end of time map change!
It just seemed a real shame to loose a busy server

and this just seems the way things are done, was on another server that advertises that it resets at 5am and had exactly the same thing, eveyone gets kicked. but then i went to bed.

dont know if its possible, but a general server reboot at 5am would be good for the server i guess
but is there anything we can do to stop everyone getting kicked when the map runs out of time?

make the map last even longer? or set it to 24 hours long and change to it at 5am.

I say restart the server at 5am everyday then it's running as good as it can be

Also hardly anyone will be on at 5am so it's a good time to do it as we will not loose any players

eksman talks a lot of sense for a man who drunk his weight in beer!

if the map time can be set at 24 hour and a reset scheduled for the middle of the night then that would be a victory for commonsense.
but as ever, this is down to our mysterious leader having the time to sort it out.

i am pretty sure that the clan of doom's admins are not reseting the servers on the way to bed, or indeed getting up to do so, they have a few so i guess its some sort of script.

heyho, i PM'd moggie earlier, but got no reply and nowt posted here.

will keep my suggestions to myself

Map time for TF2 servers are 960 mins - 16 hours

I looked yesterday when the fps was hitting 15 at times and there had been over 1100 players on since it was last restarted. When I rented servers I always restarted the game once a day and deleted all the log files to try to keep it as clean as possible. This is on the same box as the 60 man css server and the 2fort one, I suppose at peak times when both are full the server must be running the processor at 100%.

nope, the main 64 man css server is seperate to the tf2 ones, they have a quad core chip with each core running a different tf2 server. and the css heaven one and website share a box.

actually, no when both full they are not running at 100%, if that was the case we would have amazingly bad servers and game play.

This is the badwater box, just out of interest have a look tonight when the css and the badwater are full and see what it's running at.

Its not just doing a score reset by changing the map, the game process needs restarting too, as you can see below 1919 players on ft2 since last restart and 6797 on css

so can we not make the map time for badwater 1440mins
and have some server side cmd that resets it once at 5am then the server will do its own thing
