Basically there is no point screaming 'HAXOR' in chat, that is absolutely pointless.

Instead, cunning & stealth is called for!

Whats the point of just banning a single player from our server, wouldn't you get a lot more satisfaction by getting the cheating swine banned from THOUSANDS of servers instead? Yep I thought so, so here goes:

A few tips:
1. Spec the player for a few rounds. They WILL give themselves away eventually I 100% assure you.
2. Sometimes shots are flukes, remember that!
3. If unsure, consult another admin in TeamSpeak or via steamfriends (out of the game enviroment, where they cannot see ur chat)

Basicaly admins have the abilty to record a player while they play, this can then be sent over to SteamBans for verification and hopefully for the ban to be placed on file.

The quick way:
1. Open the console and type 'Record DEMONAME'
2. Type 'sb_status' in console
3. Type 'stop' in console (after getting a good few rounds of the lamer)
4. Type status and record thier steam ID (always in the format of STEAM:X:X:XXXXXXX)
5. Inform MoggieX of the steam ID and details ASAP

Below are the steps to record a player
Note 1: Firstly you should type status into the console and records thier steam ID for me to ban them server side.

Note 2: Inform me after you have made a recording so that I can submit it, only I can sumbit the evidence to SteamBans

There are some really simple steps that you can undertake in order to get the best possible demo.

Before we start it is important to be aware of that the higher the ping you have the larger the margin of error on the demo is. You should not be recording a demo on a server that lags you or if you are getting much choke/loss.

Second: be aware of how long you are recording. Each minute is approximately 2 megabyte of demo which will be around 500KB zipped. So take demos that are not longer then 5 minutes before recording a new one.

Let's move on.

Step 1
When you have located the player that you would like to demo be sure to get into a position where you can spectate him without him really noticing. If the server allows spectators you can record the demo from spectator-mode. If you either can’t spectate the person, or the server doesn’t allow spectators, you can "chooseteam" -> select a team, but do not select a skin. This way you will have spectating abilities, but not be forced to spawn each round. If for some reason the above doesn’t work, you can type "kill" in console when you spawn.
Note: The latter will alert a vigilant cheater so be aware not to draw to much attention to yourself.


Step 2
Once you have gotten into the spectating position start the demo by bringing down the console and typing "record [demoname]". The demo will appear in the cstrike folder with the [demoname].dem. Be sure to follow the suspect/cheater all the time, do not "flip" between people to show where they are on the map compared to the suspected cheater. Should the cheater die before the round ends pick a random other person to spectate till he dies.

Step 3
After you have started recording you need to verify the ID of the player.. Bring down the console again and type "sb_status" [enter].

Step 4
The final step is simply to type "stop" in console when the 5 minutes of recording has ended, and if you think it is insufficient make a new recording taking the same steps once again.

Once you have recorded the demo(s) and made the sb_status call in console, jump out of the game and browse to the cstrike folder and "zip" (WinZip) or "rar" (WinRAR) them.

Note: By selecting the “maximum/best/slowest” compression method in either WinZip or WinRAR, you can compress the demo(s) more efficiently. This allows demos of greater size to be submitted, and reduces the uploading time.

When done all above correctly the only thing left to do is to submit the .zip/.rar to SteamBans.com.

You have to type it into the Console not into the Chat.

I've tried putting it in, but I don't see any effects

i think it was removed. used to be a steambans command thingie to link SB id's to steamid's or something like that.

(it dumps output in console btw)

It's all about how depended we have become on VBAC (Moggie's anticheaterhaxscriptthingy).
VBAC: Very Basic Anti Cheat.

Sometimes I see players that would have been banned (reason: dodgy MoFo)pre-VBAC, but as long as VBAC doesnt kick in...

I wonder if there's "paid-for" cheats that VBAC doesn't bother about.



IF you are on a dodgy player and you demo him ALWAYS put in the sb_status. doesn't cost extra but will do some good (if demo is submitted to VAC) ?

It appears the steambans plugin isnt on any of our servers atm, I dont know why and wont speculate why, but that makes submitting them to steambans pointless and also makes it pointless doing the command.

VBAC will only catch basic cheats. It won't catch just aimbots or subtle esp or radar hacks, so keep that in mind when you decide not to ban someone just because VBAC hasn't.

Even though the Steam_bans plugin isn't on the servers and 'sb_status' doesn't work.

If you are doing a demo of a possible cheater it's a good idea to do a standard 'status' in the console while recording.

You then get all the Steam ids for the players in the demo.
