You may or may not have noticed, but there is now a new server up and running for Eternal silence. (J!m's post here for reference http://www.ukmandown.co.uk/forum-t71635-last.html ) You can find it on the far right hand side of the page.

This is a new Mod and was found by j1m, it is still a work in progress and the server more so as Moggie will be tidying up things to make it run the way of the other servers.

You need the client. Either download from the links on the homepage, or, download from the hosting that moggie has kindly put up, which would probably be quicker.

I played last night for a while, but got frustrated at my lack of piloting skills. ended up just hitching a lift and hoping for the best. And what numbnut decided to make K the key for ingame chat, my hands are too small to reach all the way over there.
may try and set up a gamepad for this, think it will help me if i can get it done.
still think an infantry only map would be good for the rotation. removing airstrikes etc from COD4 was a help to attracting new players. and when i played there was no team balance, anything we can do about this?

otherwise, i agree a good mod and will satisfy until we get the star wars mod we have all been waiting for.

I don't think there's anything particularly special about our server. Like Jim said before, people will join a server if people are already playing there. Even if it is just Jim playing by himself, people will soon join.

I think also the fact that we have n00b friendly in our name will help attract new players. The game is very overwheling, if I wasn't part of this community and was just starting to play this game I would choose our server due to the n00b Friendly.

As for Infantry only maps, what would be the point? The server is doing very well so far and without the excellent space flight sections the game is nothing special.

Dunk, if you're having a hard time with the space sections I would continue to fly as a passanger on Bombers, etc until you get a feel for things.

its all about targeting and getting the keys mapped right to be comfortable.

make sure you have a key binded for "nearest enemy" and "last attacker" to help you target people, even if you are just a gunner passenger, as once targeted, a small "lead" target circle appears to show you where to aim.

lets make a night of it tonight, i'll be on ts to talk and guide any n00bs that want to listen to how to play the game.

I had a go last night but didnt really know what to do?
Flew towards the other big ships and got my arse raped.
I take it its just the bomber that can damage the big ships and its dog fighting for the fighters.

And how do you enter the ememy ships to board them, you cant get close enough??

i can handle the targeting, its just the general control with the yaw controls being a pain as they need another key to be pressed. think the gamepad will sort me out.
also, anyone know if we can go 3rd party view when flying??

Nades, last night was my first go but I think I have some understanding of how the game works now. There are a few different stages to the game, here's my 5 minute guide:

The first goal is to destroy the enemy corvettes. There are 3 of them near the enemy's mothership or whatever you want to call it. Like you said, Bombers work best against these but need to be covered by the fighters so they can do their job.

Once the enemy corvettes are destroyed you are able to fly into the enemy hanger. During this stage the enemy will have to defend for 5 mins while you try and capture control points in their ship. If they can hold you off for 5 mins then their corvettes will return and it will go back to the initial space fighting section.

If you successfully capture a control point then your team can respawn in that area and continue to capture areas of the ship. I’m not 100% sure but I think you automatically win if you capture all areas but I’m not sure. Alternatively you can continue to bombard their ship with Bombers and you’ll win if you destroy it.

Like Jim said, it’s best to play around with the key binds to ensure you have everything you need. I bound Q & E to roll left and right to help me avoid missiles and I bound MOUSE4 to “target nearest enemy”. There are other commands aswell but I got on fine with that.

aww so you take out the 3 smaller ones before you can get into the big one.

Or just fly around like Maverick from Topgun shooting the other fighters whilst shouting "YEEEHAAAA Jesters dead!"
