Wont be long before screenshots are getting posted and the layout will be available for testing.

So next step will be allowing you folks to ask questions to find out more behind the map and why its being made, whats gonna make it different and so on. I will try to check this everyday in order to answer the questions as promtly as possible. But please remember a lot of my time is going on the map.

Crikey that was quick

Well I have done mapping before (HL, HL2, CSS and so on) so thought why not for TF2. While this is a new challenge given the different style I thought it could be good project for me.

As for the difference between this map and the others? Well the layout is the main issue. Most TF2 maps are incredibly linear or simple (so to speak) however given the tactical nature of TF2 I felt that there are more options available. Hence the cross style map (see other thread) allows you to attack any point in any order. While the middle point is close to each base its a simple choke point. However travel a little further to the outer points will allow you obtain additional spawn points so a tactical available could be to take the outer points and then pincer the centre point. Finally taking the base.

As for what is behind the map. There wasnt a great deal tbh. A lot was made on the fly. However I did come up with a small story for it.
The Reds own the area of the mines and have a thriving export business. However a number of the workers all live in a shanty town. The blues wish to take over this place for their own devices but of course the reds arent gonna let them that easily. So we have 5 main areas, Red Base, Blue Encampment, Mines, Shanty Town and Export Building. All hopefully different enough to encourage longetivity.

Ooh ooh, pick me, pick me!
How'd you balance the map size? Did you aim for the regular 24 people? How does the map feel when empty and full? Also, I assume from the 3 middle CPs that the map is quite wide, so how'd you manage class balance (e.g. open areas for snipers, hidden nooks for spies and engies etc)?

Well tat_sun Balancing the map will be through playtesting. I have been speaking to moggie to put up the layout so we can see how it goes. And then get feedback in order to make adjustments.

Im hoping to make the map accessable for a min of 10 players to 24. However it may require more given the size and nature. This will become evident later on in the development.

For class balance there will be multiple routes to each capture point so spies may have a slight advantage currently. But we will look at each class during playtesting. I would expect snipers to have a good view for a supporting role only. And engineers will play a vital role for movement with their teleporters. So the attack and defend of each point will be manic affairs and open to more tactics.

Do you have any plans on compensating the map for number of players? It sounds like, at the moment, if you have small teams, red won't be able to defend all 4 points at once (unless you have an all scout defence which I did on Gravel Pit once and is awesome), so they have to sit on one point, but then blue capture the others and gain an advantage over red.
Then again, even Valve's official maps have this problem of needing a certain number of players to work (glares at Dustbowl)

Maybe have it so that certain points can only be captured when a certain number of people are playing, if that's possible.

Unless the points are all very close to each other. I don't know, that's why I'm asking

Well Neon its currently not planned to be an attack/defence map as the idea is to open up the map to either side other than the spawn cap points until one side holds the the 3 centre areas.

But of course playtesting is the key to map making.
This may change due to comments
