Lo Guys and Dolls,

Im picking up my new monitor today and was wondering if im going to have probs playing source games at it's native resolution of 1680x1050?

I currently have a 22in CRT and usually play at 1280x1024.

Specs:

E8200 @ 3.2Ghz
8800GT 1GB video ram
2 GB ram
Vista 32.

Cheers

You shouldn't have any problems, options gives you an aspect ratio setting which you set to 16:10 then you can select 1680x1050 to run at the native resolution.
I can do that with CSS and TF2 but I have found with L4D I have to set it down lower to get a decent frame rate, but my PC isn't as good as yours so you shouldn't have a problem.

You will love the TFT wide screen fantastic for gaming.

you see more of the game too, tested it out against a square aspect, and theres more at the sides

play css, and keep the enemy at the edge of your screen as you strafe behind them, and if they don't have widescreen, they won't see you

and yes, your computer will run it fine, but you will see a fps drop compared to the smaller aspect/resolution, but it will not be noticeable while playing

u should be fine with what you have, will probably take you a few hours to get used to the shape of the monitor and need a few mouse tweaks to get it to feel right.
just remember to set the refresh rate to its highest setting, and it may be worth upping the fan speed on your gfx card to cope with the extra work it will do, altho the card shout automatically do this, i personally prefer to stick it upto 80% when i know i am in for a few hours of gaming and i never see my 8800gtx go above 64%, when its idling at 60% its closer to 52%. I did recently strip it down and artic 5 the gpu, need to redo it as it needs new themal pads for the ram so i had to do a botch job of them.

just think what you can do with all that extra desk space now!

what one did you go for? i think a big ol monitor may be what i want for christmas.

Cheers guys, my framerates on CSS and TF2 shouldnt be a problem as I play with everything on High and fps is always around 100, unless loads of crap is going on, like big trees coming out of nowhere (Moggie!!).

Even l4d should be fine, its the first OB game to Fully support multicore CPU's, although its buggy as Hell just now and certain CPU's dont like it, like mine!!
So i have to set mat_queue to 1 so im only using one core.
This should be sorted soon and will get to use both cores to play L4D.

Dunk - To be honest its a cheapo one, A optiquest Q2202W one, but at just over 100 quid I dont care, as you say I need the desk space cause a CRT 22" takes up a hell of a lot of room.
It may be cheap but it has got decent customer reviews.
It wont be ubber l33t for games but thats not what i really bought it for.

the other thing i like to do is set fixed aspect ratio scaling in driver options when u play in 4:3 res so it not all stretched but still fits the height of the screen
