Maybe i dont know much about tick rates, but im under the impression that a higher tick rate makes for better gameplay.

Which leaves me wondering, why is the more popular noob server 66 tick, and purgatory 100 tick? Wouldnt it be better to have the tick rates switched?

because more than 24 slots, and a 100tick server becomes unstable, due to the processing load

we ran our main server at 75 tic for a while, but found it lagged pretty bad when 3/4 filled

The tick rate refers to the number of times a second the server updates its internal "model" of the game "world", a higher tick rate gives a better more accurate simulation of gameplay - this generally mean better bullet registration etc. However the higher the tick rate the greater the strain on the server (CPU's) and bandwidth (server has to send & receive 100 updates a second to each client) and this scales with the number of players in game - i.e 50 man server + 100 tick = massive choke as the server struggle to update all 50 players 100 times a second. Purgatory however is only 24 slots so can cope with the higher tick rate.

EDIT: doh ninja'ed

I was wondering about that myself, but hey its all been answered.

Just wanna leech on to this css question with enougher (yes its total n00b time) I was asked the other night what Rates I was on, and I replyed with no idea as not sure what he meant by it can anyone explain (It was after I killed him/Her).

Also sometimes people spamm "bet ct all" or "bet t all" any chance someone can fill me in with what they mean aswell ( I figure the ct and t is which side ya on).

Rates is the same sort of thing as server tick rate. Your individual tick rate is a separate setting to the server one. For example, you can be on a 100 tick server but have your rates set for 66 tick, meaning you aren't getting the full benefit of the server but decreasing your bandwidth usage.

If you type rate, cl_cmdrate and cl_updaterate in the console it should tell you. For 66 tick (the default) they should be 25000, 66 and 66 (I think, anyone know for sure?) This site is quite useful

Pretty sure the bet thing is betting your money on which team to win. Not that you need it on our servers with the infinite money hax we have

Aye, there are betting mods that allow you to bet certain amounts of money (or "all" of it) on which team is going to win the current round - it gives you odds based on a how many player are on either team.
