I post in case someone is having similar problems.

As a relative newcomer to TF2, and MP gaming come to that, I've been practising rocket and sticky jumps (sad but true ). My sticky jumps were coming along nicely but I was having real problems with rocket jumps.

I think I've figured it out. I play with a Nostromo keypad (USB) but have a wireless mouse (obviously not a dedicated gamer ). Rocket jumps use mouse and keypad (Primary Fire+Jump) but sticky jumps just needed the keypad (Secondary Fire+Jump). I think the wireless delay, albeit milliseconds, meant the key depressions were not being recognised as "simoultaneous". I reprogrammed the Nostromo to include a "Primary Fire" key and I'm doing much better.

I hope this helps someone in the future.

Cheers
